Coffee was introduced to farmers in Northern Thailand by the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej as a replacement crop for opium. To the west of Chiang Rai is a mountainous area known locally as Pink Valley on account of the many cherry blossom trees that bloom in January, turning the hillsides pink. Some of Thailand’s finest coffees are produced in this valley under these cherry trees. A balanced cup with caramel sweetness and notes of red apple, dried fruit and spices.
